Poker Lanai was Dennis Mathewson’s first large art gallery piece in Hawaii. It sold surprisingly quick for such a large item. The original photo used for the painting was taken in his own backyard as a vision of the Tuesday boys poker night. It plays on the famous dogs playing poker, but with an Island flavor. He staged his own lanai patio table and chairs for the photo reference. He then added a mix of characters and some fun drama to the scene.
