Rare Jellyfish Aluminum Prototype by Dennis Mathewson
This rare aluminum semi-original prototype was created by Dennis Mathewson as an early exploration of his jellyfish artwork. The piece combines innovative printing techniques with Mathewson’s signature hands-on artistic process.
Beginning with an original, hand-ground aluminum panel prepared specifically for the image, Mathewson used a specialized UV flatbed printer to integrate the jellyfish into his custom-created background. He then brought the piece to life with hand-painted bubbles, airbrushed highlights, and intricate finishing details. A high-gloss urethane topcoat completes the work, giving it a brilliant, polished finish.
This unique prototype was never put into production. The time, craftsmanship, and hands-on detailing required to create each piece proved comparable to producing one of Mathewson’s original paintings.
The result is a rare example of artistic experimentation—a distinctive piece that bridges the worlds of original painting, innovative printing technology, and handcrafted metal art. This is part of the Artist’ private studio collection and is one of a kind.
